Frequently asked questions
- What is FICM?
- The Morelia International Film Festival (FICM) was founded in 2003 as a way of promoting new trends in Mexican cinema, with the city of Morelia as its main venue. The festival emerges out of a need to create a unique meeting point in Mexico for the cinematographic community, the general public and the new ideas in national and international cinema.
- When is the festival?
- The 10th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival will take place from October 20 to 28 in 2012 in the city of Morelia.
- What kind of films are shown at FICM?
- The sections in competition -- short film, documentary, Mexican feature and the Michoacán section -- make up the essence of the festival, which has become one of the most important forums to promote new talent in Mexican cinema.
- When will the program be published?
- The program will be published just before the festival begins. More information will soon be available.
- Can anyone attend the festival?
- Anyone can attend the festival with or without accreditation.
Accreditations are for those selected for competition, Mexican and foreign invited guests and the press that covers the festival's activities.
There are two categories for accreditation:
1. Invited guest: Accreditations for invited guests are given directly by the festival to those who have been selected for competition, the cinematographic community, sponsors and special guests.
2. Press: If you work for a particular media and want to cover the festival, check here for information.
Without accreditation, you can attend the festival by paying for a ticket at the box office or online, and at the same time finding out about the free activities that the festival offers.

- Can I attend any event at the festival?
- To attend any film screening within the festival, you must have a ticket. In general, the conferences, round tables and exhibits described in the catalog are free and do not require a ticket. However, space is limited, so it is suggested that you arrive early because seats are on a first-come basis.
There are also events that are not directly organized by the festival, therefore no access is available through FICM. The inauguration and closing ceremony of the festival are events that you can attend by invitation only.
- What tickets are available and how do I get them?
- Tickets for screenings at Cinépolis during the festival cost 35 pesos, much less than the regular price. "Cinebonos" (tickets for four showings or two VIP screenings) will be sold for 120 pesos. The cost of tickets at VIP theaters is 70 pesos each or 120 pesos for two.
We recommend arriving 20 minutes before the screenings as maximum occupancy is expected. There are no commercials or trailers before the screenings. Seats cannot be reserved. Tickets can be bought directly at the box office the day of the screening or online.
- What other activities will take place at FICM?
- The International Morelia Film Festival offers a great variety of activities that will make your stay in the capital of Michoacán an unforgettable cinematographic and tourist experience.
During the festival, movies from the four official sections will be screened in addition to a selection of films from the International Critics’ Week section of the Cannes Film Festival. There will be premieres of national and international films, tributes, conferences and events in different parts of the city.
FICM's activities also include film series, outdoor screenings, workshops, conferences, round tables and exhibitions in Pátzcuaro and Mexico City.
- What are the dates in order to participate in the call for FICM?
- The call to submit films in the sections in competition is in April each year.
- What does "The best of the Morelia Film Festival in Mexico City" mean?
- Each year, at the end of the festival in Morelia, the winning short films, documentaries and features as well as a careful selection of films can be seen in Mexico City.
